Raising rents an affordable housing development project could be part of the answer to many struggling renters especially those in the surrounding area of a former Greenpoint Hospital.
Built-in 1914 the former nursing residence which has been closed since 1982 would be the perfect site for a development project of affordable housing. This brick and limestone building continues to deteriorate as community leaders and local officials implore the City to move forward with a plan to redevelop this site.
While HPD says they are “Currently engaged in assessing potential strategies for moving forward in refining parameters of a redevelopment plan,” they have not made any allowances to secure a new developer. Mayor De Blasio has promised to build an estimated 200,000 units of affordable housing – I hope he makes this beautiful building part of his plan.
