Being stuck inside has its pros and cons. Pre-COVID-19, my skin was doing well with my regular daily skin routine. Now, I am experiencing breakouts, parched lips, etcetera—with a paired-down skin regime and a ramped-up self-care routine. But pucker Up today is all about DIY Lip Scrub for Gorgeous Lips.
As I embrace more moments of inaccessible self-care, I have turned to my kitchen and am using things I have on hand for DIY beauty projects.
Today we are talking about our lips—dry, cracked, flaky lips are certainly not attractive, even if you are the only one looking at them. My lips are dryer than usual, although I am using a lip mask religiously at night and applying a lip balm throughout the day [ok, so maybe I could do more of this].
I am self-diagnosing, I know, but maybe it is because I am not applying enough lip balm or because I have been excessively licking my lips [it is a new nervous thing], or I am out of my lip scrub that is currently sold out.
I ventured into my kitchen after googling dry lip care way too many times than I would like to admit. Played around with a few ingredients over the past few weeks. I ended up with a bruised lip one week from the abrasiveness of the coffee, and I have gagged because the grapeseed oil got into my mouth another time. And a few other very embarrassing moments I would instead not share right now. But DIY is about trial and error.
Goodbye, dry, cracked, flaky, burning lips—Hello, soft, buttery, and gorgeous lips. Here is what worked to create the perfect DIY lip scrub for magnificent lips.
Ingredients:
- One teaspoon of organic coconut oil—feel free to adjust to 1/2 teaspoon. Experts credits coconut oil for its moisturizing properties and anti-bacterial benefits.
- One teaspoon of honey—feel free to adjust to 1/2 teaspoon. Several beauty experts suggested honey for its antioxidant properties.
- One teaspoon of raw organic brown sugar. Feel free to use whatever is in your kitchen.
Here is how to make it and how to use it.
- Combine all ingredients into a paste-like formula—the paste must be able to drip a bit.
- Gently massage a generous amount of scrub to lips in a circular motion [Trust me on the gentle motion—I am speaking from experience].
- Wipe away excess with a warm face cloth and apply your favorite lip balm.
This recipe makes a nice amount of Lip scrub—I store it in a small glass jar in the refrigerator, and it lasts for a few usages.
Hello, fabulous, soft, and beautiful lips.
Hello, fabulous, soft, and beautiful lips.
Continue to use a nightly lip mask if you have one. Generously slather on your lip mask just before bed and drift off to beautiful sleep. During the day, try to minimize licking your lips if that is a habit. And apply lip balm throughout the day, even if you are quarantined.

Never underestimate the power of a lip scrub—it is one of those things that many of us believe is not a necessity to our beauty routines, but it is a real game-changer.
Lip scrubs only allow our lip masks and balm to do their job better—if you are a lipstick wearer, you will see noticeable differences that will make your application so fabulous. Especially matte lipstick wearers like me.
Cheers to beautiful, smooth, and kissable lips—Happy Sunday Dahlings!
As always, I am sending Love—Stay Safe.
