Great news Brooklyn. Wegmans, the family-owned suburban grocer has officially opened its doors at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Sunday, October 27th.
On Sunday morning, over 1000 customers from Brooklyn and its surrounding boroughs flocked excitedly in the rain to experience the first store of its kind in the NYC area. Many of whom got there at 4:30 AM for the 7 AM grand opening. The anticipation was great – after the 2015 announcement of the store, we all waited in quiet anticipation.
Wegmans roots date back to 1916. The chain is known for creating a win-win culture. The bottom line is an important part of any successful business and Wegmans is no different. The company’s cares do extend beyond its bottom line to its customers and employees and deserve to be celebrated. That it is something we rarely see in today’s business environment.

Wegmans came in second and third place consecutively in 2017 and 2018. Move over Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, Wegmans is here. And they offering over 60,000 products including a wide variety of organic options. The74,000 square foot store is located at 21 Flushing Avenue, in the Admirals Row Development. For a decade there have been false promises of an opening. And years of effort from the community planning including three separate requests and proposals.
