A historic Art Deco setting, exclusive French brands, and moody florals. Printemps New York is where downtown cool meets Parisian sophistication.
Walking into Printemps New York at One Wall Street was not something I planned—it was something I wandered into. I was not even sure I wanted to visit on opening day. I had a vague idea of what awaited: a French department store, some fashion, maybe a chic café. What I got was a full sensory escape. One that began with a burst of color and ended with a cocktail beneath a floral chandelier in a historic Art Deco landmark.
Lower Manhattan, known more for power suits and trading floors, is not the obvious place to go hunting for Parisian elegance. But that might be exactly why it works.
From Concrete Jungle to Mosaic Marvel
One Wall Street has long been one of New York’s quiet architectural icons. Originally the headquarters of the Irving Trust Company, the building is now a luxurious mixed-use space—but what has not changed is its soul. Printemps has embraced that history with reverence, particularly in the Red Room, an architectural jewel designed by Hildreth Meière. With its shimmering red mosaic tiles and curved walls, the room is as intimate as it is grand.
Rather than cover it up, Printemps has celebrated the Red Room by designing around it—complementing its rich history with softly glowing floral lamps and a nearby cocktail bar that feels like a secret tucked between time zones. I found myself lingering there longer than I intended, sipping sparkling water and wondering how something could feel so cinematic yet real.
Printemps New York: A First Impression in Technicolor
I was not prepared for the visual feast that greeted me at the entrance. Most department stores go for polish and precision, but this was different. This was curated chaos in the best way—vivid textures, unexpected color pairings, ceiling fixtures that looked like they had been plucked from a dream. It felt alive.
Printemps New York is broken up into a series of rooms, each with its own distinct personality. They are not labeled like traditional sections. They are named like characters. Each room invites you to step into a different mood. The aesthetics shift subtly as you move, and I later learned they are designed to evolve with the merchandise—ever-changing, like the city outside its doors.

Paris Meets New York—Not Just in Style, But Spirit
This is more than a flagship—it is Printemps’ first U.S. location. And it does not just import Parisian aesthetics; it translates them through a New York lens. The store feels like an elegant Parisian apartment, albeit one that has been given a downtown edge.
Everything here is intentional. From the curation of emerging French brands—25% of which are exclusive to the U.S.—to the custom scent that subtly follows you as you move from room to room. There is no sensory overload, just orchestration.
I browsed vintage cocktail dresses under moody lighting in The Boudoir, then drifted into The Salle de Bain, where head massages and spa-style facials were being offered alongside beauty essentials you would normally find tucked away in Parisian pharmacies. In a city that thrives on efficiency, Printemps dares you to linger.
Downstairs, a Different Tempo
The lower level, known as The Playroom, is a sharp—but welcome—shift in tone. Here, the vibe leans more downtown: sneakers, streetwear, and art books fill the space. It is whimsical but grounded. There is a “Curiosity Corner” with eclectic finds and Café Jalu tucked into the corner like a hidden gem.
Café Jalu, named after Printemps’ original founders, is a serene stop amid the buzz. I ordered a latte and a gluten-free Spiced Banana & Pineapple Bread, both served with the kind of quiet grace you do not often find in a department store café. It is not loud, it is not rushed, and that alone made me want to return.
Dining at Printemps New York: Where Culture Meets Cuisine
Dining here is not an afterthought. It is woven into the experience. Printemps partnered with Top Chef finalist Gregory Gourdet to create three culinary spaces that each offer something distinct. Whether it is a slow brunch or a cocktail-fueled afternoon, there is a place for it here.
Maison Passerelle offers French classics with a twist, framed by hand-painted tiles and stained glass windows. A brasserie through and through, but with enough modernity to feel fresh.
Salon Vert, just a few steps away, is quieter and more refined. Its raw bar overlooks Broadway, and its oyster mignonette—made with Haitian green seasoning—is an homage to Gourdet’s heritage and creativity.
Tucked in between the two, Red Room Bar might be my favorite space in the entire store. It is moody and intimate, with a menu of inventive cocktails and non-alcoholic options. It feels like the kind of place you end up at accidentally, but remember long after.

Beyond Shopping: How Printemps New York Invites You to Linger
What sets Printemps New York apart is not just its Paris-meets-New-York aesthetic. It is the sense of community and cultural curiosity it cultivates. This is not a store built only for the transaction—it is built for exploration.
French language lessons are offered on-site. Seasonal culinary and wine pairings are planned. There is a concierge-style Welcome Cabana that feels more like a five-star hotel lobby than a department store desk.
They have even opened a curated wine shop—yet another layer in their mission to offer more than just shopping. Printemps wants to be a hub for locals and travelers alike, a place where commerce and culture hold equal space.
Printemps New York and the Cultural Evolution of FiDi
The Financial District has been quietly evolving for years. From the nearby Tin Building to Crown Shy and now Printemps, this corner of Lower Manhattan is redefining what it means to go downtown. FiDi is shifting from corporate to cultural.
Printemps is not just along for the ride—it is setting the tone. It brings a level of elegance and depth that has been missing from Lower Manhattan’s retail scene. And it does so without ever feeling out of place. In fact, it feels overdue.
The BKLS Take on Printemps New York
In a city saturated with pop-ups and performative retail, Printemps New York stands out for its commitment to the long game. It is beautiful, yes—but also intentional, layered, and refreshingly unhurried. This is a place to spend an hour—or an entire day. A space to discover something new, or simply rediscover the joy of lingering.
In many ways, visiting Printemps New York reminded me why we still go to stores, why we crave beauty in the every day, and why a little touch of Paris in New York feels like exactly what the city needed right now.
