Wikipedia says “Roller skating is the traveling on surfaces with roller skates. It is a form of recreational activity as well as a sport, and can also be a form of transportation.” For me roller skating is Magical.
A pillar of the 80’s and 90’s. And a huge thing in Brooklyn and Detroit in the 70’s. In the 70’s People gathered to vibe as a community. Disco music, hip-hop, and rap all grew out of the skate culture. The skating rink was a place for artists to release first records or a place to meet promoters.
For the past two years I have noticed roller skating is making a comeback. And it’s evident with IG sensations such as @estrojen, @justseconds, and a slew of others leading the way.
On my list this year is to have a lot more FUN and I’d like to learn how to roller skate. Yes it’s a fact that I don’t know how to roller skate – I have never done it in my life ever.
I was really hoping that I could pushed learning to roller skate wayyyyy wayyyy to the last quarter but then I learned about an upcoming Brunch and Im excited.
Schimanski, in Williamsburg will be hosting The Roller Wave – An 80’s Roller Disco Brunch on Saturday January 18th along with Secret NYC.
Lace up your roller skates, prepare to enjoy some 80’s disco vibes and tasty Mamosas and lets skate away. This 80s pop-up event, will feature two hours of live entertainment and special performances by professional roller dancers, a live DJ and brunch items (available for purchase if you get hungry).
Ticket holders will have an opportunity to enjoy a choice of three sessions. Session will run from 12 to 2 PM, 2 to 4 PM and 4 to 6 PM.
If you can’t make this Saturday The Roller Disco Brunch will return on Saturday, January 25th and Saturday, February 15th to Schimanski. But my suggestion is grab your friends and have fun on all three dates. Hey why not?
