FASHION WEEK BROOKLYN TURNS 10 this month:
With Brooklyn dramatically changing, Fashion Industry veteran Rick Davy held a vision of creating the borough’s fashion show. And it all began in a Brownstone Apartment in Bedford Stuyvesant with a simple conversation.
Although many of us who lives in Brooklyn would have thought, “what a remarkable idea.” When Davy shared his idea with insiders within the Fashion Industry, he was greeted with naysayers. They assured him that major Fashion Editors would never make their way to Brooklyn. The sentiment was; that creating such an event in Brooklyn without major sponsors, mainstream designers and a celebrity-filled front rows would not be worth the trip.
Making Fashion Week Brooklyn a reality was not without its challenges. But on May 6th, 2006, Rick Davy’s idea was brought to life with the debut of FWBK showcasing in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn. The buzz not only brought Mainstream Fashion editors – FWBK was the first of its kind to receive a full-page story in The New York Times.
With features in Harper Bazaar, WWD, Esquire, GQ, and Vogue since its launch – FWBK turns ten years old today.
