Vitamin C has been a total game-changer for my skin. It has also been one of the most confusing ingredients I’ve ever researched on the internet. There is so much contradicting information out there.
I’ve read several articles raving about Vitamin C and its benefits. But the information was also conflicting. So I decided I would try a bunch of Vitamin C products and go based on the results or lack thereof. And that’s what I did.
Here’s an update to the original article:
While I was researching another article, I read an article that mentioned Lab Muffin. A website by Michelle, a Science Educator, Chemistry Ph.D., and Cosmetic Chemist. There is so much valuable information on Michelle’s site. But I found this article about Vitamin C that I wished I had found when I first started my Vitamin C journey. It was so informative that I knew I had to update this article to include a link to her article.
Here are some of the Benefits of Vitamin C:
- Potent antioxidant properties
- Ability to neutralize free radicals preventing damage to the skin
- Critical in the production of collagen
- Improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles
- Lightens dark spots.
How I use Vitamin C:
I use Vitamin C as a part of my AM skin routine. After cleansing, I tone or use an essence. And then I apply Niacinamide, followed by my Vitamin C, a moisturizer, and of course, SPF.
Results of using Vitamin C and Niacinamide:
- I have noticed my skin is visibly brighter
- My oily skin is less oily
- Tamed my acne breakouts
- My pores are cleaner
- My darker acne scars have lightened tremendously.
Using Niacinamide and Vitamin C, I use two separate products — applying the thinnest texture of the two first.
You can shop the Niacinamide I am currently using.
But I must say it’s cheaper at Sephora.
I’ve tried a few others which I love and are on rotation, and I will do a follow-up post on my favorites. You can shop the Vitamin C I am currently using.
